How To Start a YouTube Channel

            When most people think of YouTube, they think of people who have had an extremely successful careers because of it. You think of people like PewDiePie, MrBeast, Shane Dawson, Liza Koshy, and JennaMarbles who have 1 million + subscribers. Their YouTube Careers have helped them to branch out and start brands or following their passions in unique ways. We have a client who has found great success with uploading videos online and we thought we’d share the steps in getting started.
  • Create Your Channel – YouTube makes this extremely easy to do.
    • Sign into YouTube a click in the user icon on the top right of your screen.
    • Click Create a Channel & Get Started
    • Select “Use Your Name” or “Use Custom Name”
    • Add your name and select create
 
  • Fill in the Information about your Channel
    • Profile Picture
    • About your Channel
    • Business Links
 
  • Customize your Channel
    • Once you are done filling in your information, click continue.
    • It will send you to this page:​

  • Select Customize Channel
    • Select Create Channel Art
      • You’ll upload the channel art that you’ve created for your channel. You’ll want it to be something that goes along with your channel because this is a great way for people to see what it’s about.
The recommended size is 2560x1440 and a max file size of 6 MB.

  • Know Your Market
    • When starting a YouTube channel, you should already know what your company is about. Are you selling a product or service?
    • You want to figure out what your target audience wants and share that.
    • The more you cater to your target audience, the more people will look into your product or service.
 
  • Upload your first video
    • You’ve already done some research on what your audience wants, so put that into your first video.
    • Select the blue “Upload Video” button once your video is done.

  • Once you’ve selected your video to upload, you will be given this page.

  • You will add or select:
    • Title
    • Description
    • Add or Select Thumbnail
    • Made for Kids?
    • Age Restriction?
    • Paid Promotion
    • Tags
    • Language/Closed Captions
    • Recording Date/Location
    • License and Distribution
    • Category
    • Comments and Ratings

  • You can click on “Video Elements” if you want to add an end screen or cards.
  • Click on “Visibility”
    • This changes how you publish it and who can see it. You can select to publish it publicly after upload, unlisted, or private.
    • Or you can set it to premiere on a specific day/time using the schedule button.
 
  • Stay Consistent
    • It is rare for one video to make you an overnight success. You will have to post videos on a regular basis.
      • We suggest posting once a week and making sure that you have a couple of videos ready at a time.
 
As much as starting a YouTube channel can seem like an easy way to make money, there is a lot that goes into it. Following these steps can help get you started in the right direction towards building your YouTube presence.
